क्लिनिक में मेरी एक मरीज से बात हो रही थी।
मैं-आज कल लोग बार-बार बीमार पड़ रहे हैं क्योंकि मौसम बहुत बदल चुका है। इतने लंबे समय तक ठंड खरगोन में नही पड़ती। निमाड़ के लोग साल के लगभग 8 महीने गर्मी सहन करने के लिए ढलें हैं।
मरीज़-डाकसाब,ये सब नहरों के कारण हो रहा है। नर्मदा की नहरों से निमाड़ पंजाब बन रहा है। हमारे नेताजी की बदौलत सारी नहरें आयी है और यहाँ का मौसम बदल रहा है।
प्रतिक्रिया
मैंने सोचा-बस यही सुनने के लिए ईश्वर ने अब तक जीवित रखा था। अब मौसम बदलने में भी नेताओं का तथाकथित योगदान होने लगा है। ग्लोबल वार्मिंग जैसे शब्द तो बच्चों को डराने के लिए बनाए गए हैं।
मैने कहा-तो नेताजी के ही कारण लोग भी बीमार पड़ रहें होंगे?
उस नेताजी के पिल्ले को साँप सूंघ गया। बगलें झांकते हुए खिसियानी सी हँसी के साथ चुपचाप मेरी फीस टेबल पर रखी और रवाना हो गया।

An Episode from Life
Dialogue
I was conversing with one of my patients at the clinic.
I said, “People are falling ill repeatedly these days because the weather has changed significantly. Such prolonged cold was never a feature of Khargone. The people of Nimad are adapted to endure heat for nearly eight months of the year.”
The patient replied, “Doctor, all this is happening because of the canals. The canals of the Narmada are turning Nimad into Punjab. It is due to our leader that all these canals have come, and the climate here is changing.”
Response
I thought to myself — perhaps destiny had preserved my life only to hear such profound reasoning. Now even climate change has acquired the so-called contribution of political leadership. Terms like global warming, it seems, were invented merely to frighten children.
I responded, “Then it must also be because of the same leader that people are falling ill?”
At once he was rendered speechless. With an embarrassed smile and restless glances, he quietly placed my consultation fee on the table and departed without another word.
